How does showing the love of God and striving to be like Jesus impact the world around us?
This is a fantastic question, one that I will attempt to answer promptly; however, before anything, it is important to understand what it means to love like Jesus. As I was thinking about this, two attributes came to mind. Jesus’ love is sacrificial and conspicuous.
Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Jesus lived a life separated from sin and yet, He loved us so much that he hung on a cross and died for us sinners so that we could live! I am not saying you need to die for somebody, but rather develop a heart of sacrifice. This could be as simple as taking a couple of minutes out of your busy day to call a hurting friend.
John 13:5 “He [Jesus] poured water into the washbasin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to dry them with the towel he had wrapped around himself.”
Conspicuous love is love based on action that can be seen! Although Jesus was humble, he didn’t try to hide his love for others. Jesus didn’t go down on his hands and knees and scrub feet because he wanted to, he did it to demonstrate his love! What can you DO to show your love for others?
So, how does actively and sacrificially loving others like Jesus impact the world around us?
I asked this same question to another student in KOAM.
“I believe that showing the love of God and striving to be more like Jesus can impact the world greatly. When you show the love of God and act like Jesus, the people around you notice. They are affected by your kindness and wonder why you act so kind and loving. This gives you a chance to evangelize and share Jesus with them. “
