We all have schedules. We go to church on Sundays, school or work on the weekdays. We may go to church again on Wednesday. Everyone we know is busy busy busy. We are always busy, and because of this, it doesn’t look like we have a ton of extra time in our day-to-day lives. Sometimes we don’t have enough time hang out with our friends or do the fun things that we want to do. Hey, sometimes it seems like we don’t even have enough time to sleep. So, how are we going to be able to be a leader if we don’t even have enough time for those basic things? The good news is, we can be leaders in our day-to-day lives too. We don’t have to take extra time out of our schedules, or set aside an entire day just for leading. We can do it today, right now!

Except how?

You don’t have to do huge things or have three hundred followers on social media to be a good leader. The small everyday things we do to help others and be a light for Jesus can have a huge impact on the people around us. There are hundreds of different things we can do. We can help a friend study for a test they need help on. We can step up and be a friend to someone who is lonely. We can help a teacher clean up after class. The possibilities are endless, and each and everything you do for Jesus reflects him, shows Him to others, sets a good example, and helps you become a better leader.

On the surface, this might not look all that much like leading. But, by being humble, quick to help others, and even quicker to put others first, we are showing traits that are common in good, servant-minded leaders. Others will see the love of God in us, and some will want to follow. This doesn’t take a lot of extra time. It doesn’t mean you’ll have to set aside a whole day. You can lead today, right now, in your day-to-day lives. Just because what you do is small, it doesn’t mean it isn’t important. No matter what you do, what time it is, or where you go, you can be a leader right where you are at.
