Our last bi-monthly service project was a blast! On Saturday, April 13th, the Kids On A Mission team arrived at the Fresno Rescue Mission’s thrift store bright and early to spend the morning and early afternoon volunteering in the store. We split up into teams and organized the racks of clothes by color, sorted the different home goods shelves and organized, helped shelve the new items and clothing for sale, and had a ton of fun doing it!

This service project isn’t the last one. More opportunities to step out into the community and serve others are coming up soon, and there are a ton of reasons to get involved in service projects. Here are just a few:

  1. Service projects are a great way to get involved in your community. No matter what type of service project it is, whether you’re volunteering at a nursing home, serving food to the homeless, or helping out at a thrift store, you are going to be reaching out to your community, meeting new people, and making an impact on others.
  2. Service projects can help you step out of your comfort zone. Sometimes trying new things is a little scary, but service project, especially when you volunteer with friends, is a great way to help you grow.
  3. Service projects are a great way to make new friends. When you step out into your community to serve, you’re going to meet tons of new people, and have the opportunity to make a new friend or two.
  4. Service projects are a great way of spreading God’s love. By giving up of our time, setting aside our plans for the day or our to-do lists, and putting other people first, we are being a light for Jesus, walking in His footsteps, and showing others just how much God cares about them.
  5. And lastly… Service projects are so much fun!

These are just a few reasons to get involved in service projects, but there are also so many more. When we put others first, set aside our own needs for a moment, and lay our lives down for others, there’s no limit to what amazing things God can do through us!
